"Hair Hibernation" Huni! — Fall Is Here And Winter Is On The Way!
In order to keep your precious locks maintained, we have a few suggestions to help you nurture your hair and scalp during the next few months of "hair hibernation."
Fall and winter can be used as a time for you to strengthen your hair, gain length, and free yourself of frequent manipulation by getting a sew-in aka protective style.
We want to make sure you’re doing it right! Here are a few quick tips on how to maintain and nurture your hair during your protective style journey!
1. A Great Stylist
Having a good stylist is the key to having healthy natural hair while wearing your extensions. Knowing which install method works well with your hair type is critical for hair growth and durability.
Keep in mind that all hair stylist do not specialize in caring for hair extensions. It is best to choose a stylist that is educated and experienced in both natural hair and hair extensions. With the help of an experienced stylist, wearing hair extensions as a protective style can aid in hair growth and provide you with the versatility you desire.
Just like your natural hair needs moisture, our hair extensions do as well. Don't be that girl patting her head because it’s dry and itching like crazy. Feed your follicles and moisturize your scalp REGULARLY! When oiling in between those braids (if you have a sew-in), it is best to a transfer your oil into a bottle with a nozzle at the end. It will help you tremendously with reaching every inch of your scalp, and your scalp will LOVE you for it! We suggest using One ‘n Only Argan Oil, it is the BEST! We swear by this oil. It provides instant shine, controls frizz and it is great for color protection. We use a small amount regularly to keep our bundles moisturized and healthy.
Not only is it important for you to moisturize with oil, but it’s also imperative that you condition your natural hair along with your extension hair. Pick a wash day once a week or every other week depending on your scalp dryness and texture. We find Sundays are the best as many people use Sunday for physical and mental health and wellness. While wearing our Organic Human Hair, washing and conditioning your extensions will help extend its lifespan. Our Organic Human Hair gets BETTER after each wash and condition. YES HUNI, it gets BETTA!! We don't play when we say our hair is guaranteed to last up to 5 years!
3. Time Frame: How Long Do You Keep A Protective Style?
Many of us find it comfortable and satisfying to wear protective hair styles. Wearing them are worth the efforts, as it frees up time you would have spent styling and prepping your hair daily. Since there is no one guideline for various hair types, be sure to speak to your stylist about the length of time you should wear a protective style for your hair type. Depending on your texture, the type of protective style, and how fast your hair grows, it is suggested to re-do sew-ins every 8-10 weeks. If you keep a protective style in too long, you can reverse your efforts to grow and strengthen your hair, i.e thinning edges, temporary baldness or traction alopecia aka weave induced alopecia.
